ADVANTAGES & DISADVANTAGES

| ADVANTAGES (top) | ||
| One of the main advantages of Platon Cavity Drain membranes over cementitious systems is that they do not stop water at the point of entry, so hydrostatic pressure is not increased any more than it would be without a waterproofing system. | ||
| Because
the status quo is not altered, stresses are not induced in the substrate
other than those, which would be induced anyway. For this reason, it is
often possible to retain substrates, which would have to be replaced when
using a cementitious system, and yet still comply with BS8102. |
||
| DISADVANTAGES (top) | ||
| The main disadvantage of Platon Cavity Drain membrane is that they are incapable of accepting any hydrostatic water pressure, unless a water drainage facility is incorporated within the system such as natural or pumped drainage. | ||
| Cavity Membrane should therefore never be used in a below ground situation without a drainage facility, otherwise the Cavity Membrane system will fail at some stage. | ||
| Platon Cavity
Drain membranes should not be used under flat soffits, without creating
some sort of fall. |
